While a few members of this list have responded negatively to David Riggs
message about flying safer aircraft I agree with what he has been
"preaching". Who wants to fly a poorly constructed aircraft? Who wants to fly
a poorly maintained aircraft? I don't read about too many people on this list
bragging about how shoddy their Lancair is. Or bragging about how poorly it
was built or maintained. Quite contraire. Most members share great ideas
about how to make these aircraft better and safer. Most purchase (at great
expense) items that improve reliability, maintainability, durability and
redundancy. To wit: the Jim Frantz AOA system, the Sierra Flight System, B&C
standby alternators, better brakes, speed brakes, etc. So, in that light,
what is wrong with David's message?
Regarding spending $98,000 and getting a panel frought with problems as
Walter Dodson said and Dave responded to drew a sharp rebuttal from some
defenders; but wouldn't you be a bit upset if it happened to you. I'll bet
every one on this list has had some problem with Lancair. I know I have had
my share of them. Most all of my issues have been resolved favorably. I spent
several thousand dollars on a "fast build firewall'" and then had to take
everything off of it because the folks at Lancair did not seal anything.
Lancair is a pretty good company-- but they make mistakes just like all of
us. Its how they handle the mistakes that makes them a pretty good company,
in my book.
Dave's message is simple. "Do it right". Build it right, maintain it right,
and fly it right. If you do it right then you will get to enjoy your Lancair
for a long time.
BTW-- After several fatal accidents last year Avemco cancelled all LIV and
LIVP policies. Dave has been working behind the scenes trying to make
insurance available for those who want it. If you get affordable insurance
then you have Dave to thank. Just keep "doing it right" so we all can keep
it.
