John, they go at the load end, or in other words, at the antenna end.
I used Jim W's designs for all but my Comm antenna and they work very well.
In fact, his VOR ant., installed in my horizontal stab is better than
anything I've encountered in any spam can I ever flew. It really reaches
out.
It's a good idea to stick the toroids to the cable with a dab of "Goop" or
equivalent before installing the shrink tube. Lets you position them
correctly and keeps them from sliding around as you apply the heat.
