I just received my fuel probes, and in test fitting them into the wing,
I came across a discrepancy. I selected the Vision Microsystem probes
because Kirk Hammersmith told me the VM probes would be compatible with
both the Electronics International and VM display units, while the
reverse wasn't true.
When fitting my fuel probes into the wing, I discovered that the probes
end about 11" from the outboard rib, and about 1" below the top of the
tank. The VM probes are 66" long, while the EI probes are 72" long,
which would bring the tips further outboard and closer to the top of the
tank.
Being concerned that I wouldn't get accurate readings when the tank was
near full, I called the factory. The story I got, indirectly, from Mark
Mankhe, was that the "last 2 1/2 gallons would calibrate out", and the
system would be accurate. Not being familiar with the calibration
procedure, I have no idea what he's talking about, but I get the feeling
someone is pulling my leg.
Considering what I paid for these probes, I feel that they should be
right. There are no obstructions which would prevent the probe from
running the full length of the tank, so why is it so short? Why is the
EI probe a different length?
Someone please tell me if I am about to make a big stink about nothing.
Thanks,
Adam Molny
