The above statement applies to a chemical plant worker also!! Someone said that the MC 'rules' have been in place for fifty years. I can't dispute that but as one that retired from the first Lexan mfg plant that uses MC as the solvent to transport the resin throughout the plant, we were only warned of its possible side effects in the middle 80's. Prior to that we were told that it was a 'safety' solvent and we washed our hands in it frequently since that was about the only thing that would remove the resin. I remember well cleaning the 'track pruf' stuff off the shop floor when it became yellow and aged in preparation for a new coat getting 'high' on the fumes from MC. We used wire brushes on a floor buffer to scrub the floor which was flooded 1/2 inch or so with MC. After an hour or so we were singing songs etc from the cheap drunk. I must agree with David when he says this probably is another overstated Gov't case. I could be proven incorrect but I and many, many others have retired from this facility with no known side effects. Plus it is still used every day in the continuing production of Lexan plastic. (I worked in this environment for 31 years & and was given complete annual physicals each year. Retired in 1995 and have a current 3rd class medical in my billfold.) However, MC should be treated the same as any other solvent. Protect what can be protected and ventilate when possible.
