   I bought all new wood for the cradles and I can tell you that the peace
of mind is worth the extra expense, IMHO.  It took me quite a while to
become comfortable hopping up inside the plane, and I know that if I had
used the crate wood I would never have felt comfortable doing to.
I don't know what your crate wood was like, but as I recall mine used 1/2"
plywood, which I think most people would agree is not sturdy enough to
make these cradles out of.  I used a 3/4" plywood. Then, to attach the
actual cradle cutouts to the "stands", I used large bolt-style head wood
screws (I don't know what the heck they're called, I just found them
lying around the garage and said hey I'll use these!).  I think they
were 1/4" diameter - I used them only on the front and rear wing cradle
attach points so they can grip through the 2x4's.  Then of course I used
a bunch of smaller wood screws, but the bolts are what add big time peace
of mind.
