Marv,

Thy pain in the brain is mainly from disdain;

Engine be damned, if the plane is manned.
Tis weight to lift to drag the rift;
Indicated by AOA, brain untaxed, keep L/D maxed.
Alas, powerless in a decent descent.
Heavens release minimized, extant range maximized;
Beware those aloof winds aloft - Airspeed Godspeed but for ground speed.

The claim in climb is power to the excess.
Maximal excess assessed when max L/D accessed.
Alas and alack - Taken aback, again it's angle of attack!

To cruise we now come, as if it were a line rhumb,
Max no issue since every rube, with power to cube, is no bumb.

Efficiency, by definition, a balance proficiency.
Weight to lift, thrust to drag -
Instant weight & thrust at a fix,
add lift over drag to the mix.
Endurance and range- Penurance and mange...
Max L/D is your CAFE ride, winds aside, if not astride time and tide.

AOA, you see, is the envelope
of flight stresses and pilot cope.
Airspeed only a consequence,
Of aeronautical tautology on the fence.
