Now that I've had time to give it a little more thought and thanks to the input from other folks, in a nutshell what I was trying to say is simply this... Max endurance is nothing more than a measure of time. In order to maintain a constant altitude at a given wing loading, flying the AOA that yields the best L/D will allow a power setting that will consume the least amount of fuel and keep you in the air for the longest period of time. Maximum range will be a derivative of max endurance in concert with other factors, such as altitude and prevailing winds, and it's incumbent upon the pilot to turn that endurance into as much range as possible. Now this might not fit into the test pilot's handbook, but in plain terms it's how I understand the realities of the situation. I hope this clarifies my position. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please send your photos and drawings to marvkaye@olsusa.com. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
