Regards, fili [Hi Fili, Actually I'd have to think about this a bit... the reason that the best L/D is considered the max endurance angle of attack is because if you set that agle of attack and then set the power to simply hold altitude, you'll be flying at a significantly reduced airspeed than that which you'd normally cruise at. This would give you the lowest fuel burn at which you could maintain altitude, and keep you in the air the longest. This is the AOA that you'd want to fly if center was putting you into an extended holding pattern, as it is the easiest on your fuel supply. Due to the significantly lower airspeed required to maintain this particular AOA it's likely that it wouldn't take you the furthest, especially in our slippery Lancair airplanes. Determining maximum range would require graphing fuel burn against airspeed, and somewhere along that curve you'd find the best speed to fly to go the farthest based on available fuel. ] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please send your photos and drawings to marvkaye@olsusa.com. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
