The gear housing is very weak, mine cracked at a backfire once, and I know of at least 3 more that has cracked in the same place. I beleive my backfire was because of a weak battery (it takes 250A, as opposed to 150A for the prestolite). Yes the gears are plastic, and they survived the backfire. What is wrong with plastic ?
