What improvements have you seen? > 2. How big is the controller (dimensions)? > 3. Is it mounted on the engine side of the firewall? > 4. Did you decide to monitor the CHT? Hi Scott, I've got the LASAR ignition system on my O-320. I've had it on from the very first start so I can't really tell you about any "improvements" but here's what I've noticed. 1. It starts on the first blade, idles smoothly (for a 4 banger), has plenty of power for takeoff and gives me miserly fuel flow at cruise. 2. The controller dimensions are: 5 3/4 wide, 4 1/2 high and 3 1/4 deep. In addition there is a 3/4 x 2 3/4 mounting tab on the left and right sides. Including the tabs you'll need 7 3/8 x 4 1/2 firewall space. If you can't find the space on the firewall, maybe you could fabricate a bracket to hang it from the engine mount or... 3. It's mounted on the engine side of the firewall, per Unison instructions and I've had no RF interferrence from it at all. 4. I did NOT use the LASAR CHT monitoring option. I have a VM1000 which gives me plenty of warning if the CHT gets too high so I figured that the Unison system would be overkill. The only problem I've had with the system was that they originally sent me a controller that was set up FOR the CHT system. It would start and run fine for about 5 minutes than quit.(that is, the electronic ignition would quit, it reverted to normal mag operation and the engine continued to run normally) If I unpowered/repowered the system it would run fine for another 5 minutes and quit again. Unison was very responsive to my problem and sent me a new controller (still the wrong one) as well as two new mags. The problem remained the same. Finally they figured out that the part number for my controller was one that was set up FOR the CHT. It would be looking for that input and when it didn't see it after 5 minutes, it would assume the worst and shut down. Once I got the correct controller, it's worked perfectly. Let me know before your order, Scott, and I'll send you the part numbers for modules with, and without the CHT option.
