Jim,
I suspect that the plane you saw had the same mounts for the wicks that
you have; they were just embedded into the carbon during construction. I
know that's what I put on my plane. When building the control surfaces that
the mounts are in I cut slots for the billets that the wicks screw into,
used silver epoxy to bond them into place and then shaped the contours over
them with micro. Once the shape was sanded, I put 1 BID over everything and
bodyworked the finished product to look like what you saw at OSH. It's
really not that big of a job if you do it before paint.
