I received a terrific tip from the factory the other day when I wanted to
rearrange inlets and exits on my IO-360 fuel injector unit.  Very nice steel
fittings (with o-rings and lock nuts) are available from your friendly
neighborhood NAPA store.  Pick up a copy of the Weatherhead parts catalog and
flip to the 37 degree JIC section and go to town.  Selection is several times
greater than Aircraft spruce, I can finally keep pipe thread and universal
threads straight, and the price is between 3 and 5 dollars (even with
installed
o-rings)!   Also, the NAPA store either has it in stock or can usually get it
the next day (at no charge, sorry Mr. UPS man).

Consensus seems to be that steel should be the material of choice for the
engine
compartment.
