This judgement call is one of the worst that I have read about in a long time. The fact that the flight was completed without loss of life is nothing short of incredible-- but the pilot should not be admired for it. The pilot should have his certificate jerked for doing this. If you did it in a 747 you would be summarily fired. This wasn't a must go combat flight, it was recreational flight. My opinion regarding the author's boast about making a multi thousand/ multi leg flight with a taped up window and an inoperative trim system most of it over the North Atlantic remains the same: this guy will not live long in aviation making these kinds of dumb decisions. I earn a great income from guys like this who take unnnecessary risks-- far more money than I make as an examiner. I see this stuff every day. Unfortunately the jury here is split. I just hope the younger, less experienced impressionable people on this list don't think this is the way you should operate.
