Nice work as always Marv. Can you post a synopsis of the Oshkosh Builder's Forum and what you found interesting at the show this year! Few of us can see everything but, nonetheless are very interested in the progress of alternative engines, new avionics, and all real advances of the aviation "art". Higher, Faster, Farther, Safer.
I was most impressed with the Lancair IV panel at the Kit tent and my flight in the Legacy. We climbed out at 190 Kts indicated at 1500 ft per minute, right past a Mooney Rocket and a medium twin like they were standing still. O. J. let me fly a very high speed fly-by at the Fond-du-Lac Airport and pull straight up until we ran out of airspeed and kick it over weightless. With thousand's of hours in an F-4 Phantom in the Navy he said nothing like that bother's him much! What a perfect match, 320 HP and the Legacy. I'd like to see how it actually compares with the Glassair III.
Everyone is coming out with color LCD EFIS/Moving maps, but still none can touch the very well thought out Sierra Flight Systems MFDs. The UPS stack with their MX-20 is giving Garman a run for their money and may be the best choice for a new panel on a budget. Great expandability for Wx (Stormscope & Satellite weather) and collision avoidance (both terrain and aircraft) with a larger, higher resolution display. You can get approach charts too for the MX-20! A lot of talk about the end of 100 LL. Updates on Alternative Engines anyone? Still looking for the best landing light for our IV...
Insurance still a problem...
