Having flown over most of west Texas during Navigation Training back in the late 50', I can go along with the classification is Desolate. Actually, when I flew from Amarillo, TX to Albuquerque, NM in my first Cessna 172 flight to California, I thought that was about as desolate as I wanted to fly over. Desolate does not mean ugly - just, desolate {:>).
