I
taxied over to the avionics shop to have my transponder checked. On the
way back the tower call and asked if I needed assistance because of all the
smoke coming out of the exhaust. Then another aircraft radioed in a smoke
warning, and then again the tower when I taxied later that
day....
It finally dawned on
me that I am not running to rich, but that I am burning oil (white smoke).
I am far too embarrassed to taxi around the airport anymore. So I have
sent off the turbo to be re-built, hope that fixes it. Taking off the
turbo seemed to confirm the problem as the manifold before the turbo is
white/dry while the exhaust pipe has drops of engine oil.
Dave (should have
said "oops, forgot to turn the smoke machine")
