Interesting. I didnt see 50 MAP on my old turbo unless I held the wastegate closed. I wonder why. I'll watch the map carefully on the next flight, but I dont think it went anywhere near that on the one 40 minute flight I did since changing turbos. Are you saying the wastegate is ported on "our" turbo?

Hi John,

The turbo you have is not ported.  It is a series 5 unit, and Todd has a series 4.  The 4 had a much smaller wastegate, and Todd ported his, but it's still probably not any bigger than the stock wastegate on the series 5.  It's possible to port the 5 as well, and it would probably be a good idea.  I bought a second turbo on Ebay, and took it apart to port it, but found the insides were so heat cracked that it wasn't worth the effort.  My assumption is that all these turbos, including yours, is the same way inside after some use.  This was the other reason I don't consider these stock turbos to be a good choice.

As for your lack of overboost, you mentioned in a previous message that you haven't yet used full throttle.  Boost is very controllable by throttle, and you won't really see full boost, untill you use full throttle.  Do this very carefully, and preferably on the ground.  Hmmm, how do you tie down a canard for static runs?  Maybe you just tell it that it's been bad, and it sticks it's nose in the corner :-)

Cheers,
Rusty (bad, but not in the corner)
