Greetings,

Someone in the surplus engine group posted a link to a current auction for these.  Does anyone know who made them?  I'm betting they were being built by someone who went bankrupt, which would explain why they're here.  Anyone in AZ willing to pick these up if I get stupid and bid :-)

Below is the link to the site, which seems to be very poorly behaved.  Select "aircraft and aircraft parts", and you will see only these engines.  Below is also the info that was in the ad.

Cheers,
Rusty (sure would be nice on my Airbike)

AR801R Single rotor water cooled engine with reduction drive

This, as the  AR801, but is a tested and proven, lightweight, single rotor, liquid cooled engine with integrated reduction drive.

AR801R Engine - With Reduction Drive

Design Features.

  • Reduction drive giving high propeller efficiency.
  • Low levels of vibration.
  • Economical specific fuel consumption
  • Suitable for either tractor or pusher installation.
  • Low maintenance requirements.
  • Validated durability to FAR-33 type standards.

Technical Specification

Type

Wankel-type rotary, spark ignition engine.

Displacement

Single rotor - 294cm³ per rotor.

Power Output

53 kW at 6000 rpm. Alternatively 68 kW at 8000 rpm.

Weight

24.5 kg as illustrated including 2kw generator. Installed weight with cooling system is around 29.5 kg.

Vibration

Nominally zero (± 20 cm gm) radial imbalance. (Peak-to-mean instantaneous torque fluctuation is 4 approximately.)

Housing Cooling

Water-glycol mixture with toothed-belt driven pump.

Rotor Cooling

Air-cooling using belt-driven centrifugal fan.

Direction of Rotation

Anti-clockwise ( looking at face of prop flange).

Ignition System

Electronic CD system with magnetic triggering. 12 or 28 volt option. Fully duplicated system firing twin spark plugs.

Carburettors

Diaphragm-type. Version with altitude correction device (ACD) is option. Close-in mounting minimises possible icing problems. Alternative EFI system option.

Exhaust

Exhaust stub pipe without silencer.

Fuel Type

Regular grade (min 92 RON), Mogas (leaded or unleaded) or AVGAS 100LL.

Fuel Feed

Electric pump. (12V or 28V).

Lubrication

Total loss via metering pump from separate tank.

Oil Type

Mobil Pegasus 1 (or equivalents).

Oil Usage

224cm³ per hour at 6000 rpm and proportional to rpm.

Starting System

Via external cranking at propeller hub.

Generator

Alternative types giving from 0.9 to 2.0 kW.

Mounting

Platform or bulkhead mounting via 4 x M8 bolts.

Reduction Drive

Integrated lightweight belt driven reduction drive. Standard ratio = 1.93 with alternative ratios in range 1.6 to 2.2.
