The internal wastegate (even ported) can't dump enough exhaust to control the boost at full throttle.  For  
example, John's new turbo (when it was on my plane) would exceed 10 psi (50 MAP) with the wastegate  
manually held wide open.   
 
Interesting. I didnt see 50 MAP on my old turbo unless I held the wastegate closed. I wonder why. I'll watch the map carefully on the next flight, but I dont think it went anywhere near that on the one 40 minute flight I did since changing turbos. Are you saying the wastegate is ported on "our" turbo?
