While I used the = injector=20 diffusers in several of my manifolds, the manifold I am currently = using does=20 not used them. My injectors are approx 6" from the open = ports. So=20 while they are probably useful in better atomizing the fuel spray = (while else=20 would Mazda put them in?), they are certainly not critical so far as I = can=20 tell.
