I discovered that the overflow tank nipple had a defect,
The nipple was plugged solid with at least 1/4" of plastic.
Just amazing...
Is there no end to the odd things that can cause us grief :-)
The plane goes to the airport May 15th, and the DAR is scheduled to do
the inspection on the 19th. I still have to install the ELT. Much
harder to do than I thought, since they now require a remote. I had just
envisioned mounting it and being finished in 10-15 minutes. So much for
that theory. I have to remove the canard, I/P panel, and armrests to fish the
cable from the ELT to the I/P.
Good luck on the move. It's mighty exciting to see it all
assembled in the hanger for the first time.
As for the ELT, I don't know of any
rule that requires a remote display. I certainly didn't install the
remote on mine, but then I have a single place, which doesn't require the ELT
in the first place. FWIW, in my RV-8, I had a remote on the panel, and
found that it quit working after about a year. Somehow, the cable went
bad, and had to be replaced. Getting that warm fuzzy feeling yet
:-)
Also, I don't think you have to
install the ELT until after you finish the test period, but you'd want to
check on that. Also, it may be the best time to have the
ELT. My wife made me install mine, so she could get the
life insurance money quicker (kidding, but that's the joke).
Rusty,
I figured that I may as well add the ELT now. That way it'll
be included in the W&B, and I won't have to calculate it later.
You do have a good point about the life insurance money
though.
