I believe , too, that an ELT is only necessary for entering class C & B airspaces.  I learned that the ELT should be accessible and totally removable and have a portable antennae. (a local builder is also the FAA inspector)

I discovered that the overflow tank nipple had a defect,  The nipple was plugged solid with at least 1/4" of plastic.

Just amazing...  Is there no end to the odd things that can cause us grief :-)

The plane goes to the airport May 15th, and the DAR is scheduled to do the inspection on the 19th.  I still have to install the ELT.  Much harder to do than I thought, since they now require a remote.  I had just envisioned mounting it and being finished in 10-15 minutes.  So much for that theory. I have to remove the canard, I/P panel, and armrests to fish the cable from the ELT to the I/P.

Good luck on the move.  It's mighty exciting to see it all assembled in the hanger for the first time.

As for the ELT, I don't know of any rule that requires a remote display.  I certainly didn't install the remote on mine, but then I have a single place, which doesn't require the ELT in the first place.  FWIW, in my RV-8, I had a remote on the panel, and found that it quit working after about a year.  Somehow, the cable went bad, and had to be replaced.  Getting that warm fuzzy feeling yet :-)

Also, I don't think you have to install the ELT until after you finish the test period, but you'd want to check on that.  Also, it may be the best time to have the ELT.   My wife made me install mine, so she could get the life insurance money quicker (kidding, but that's the joke).

Cheers,

Rusty (should be airborne again this weekend)
