Since then, I have still had problems with coolant leaking out of the overflow hose when the engine gets hot. I decided to use a heavier hose from the cap to the overflow tank, and when I was replacing it, I discovered that the overflow tank nipple had a defect, The nipple was plugged solid with at least 1/4" of plastic. I tried to drill it out, but the drill went off center and drilled through the side of the nipple. NAPA has a new one in stock, so I'll go get another one tomorrow. The first thing I'll check is to make sure that there is a hole there. With the overflow plugged it was probably building up some pretty good pressure, which I'm sure led to the failure of the pump seal. It is such an odd thing to have happened, but I'm glad that my days of chasing the drips of coolant are over. I think that the hoses must be there to stay, since they didn't blow off. The plane goes to the airport May 15th, and the DAR is scheduled to do the inspection on the 19th. I still have to install the ELT. Much harder to do than I thought, since they now require a remote. I had just envisioned mounting it and being finished in 10-15 minutes. So much for that theory. I have to remove the canard, I/P panel, and armrests to fish the cable from the ELT to the I/P.
