Bill,
The planetary design has many advantages and so far, for rotary aviation applications, it has proven to be far more successful than any other design. Thousands of hours have been successfully flown on the Real World Solutions plenary gear boxes without any problems with the plenary gears as far as I know. All other designs combined have only a small fraction of those hours in rotary applications.
Powersports gear box is NOT a planetary design, and they never sold more than a few copies anyway.

Charley, if anyone wants to run a planetary they can. I can only advise that Powersport tested them and had problems. Mostly backlash caused. Niel may have a good design. Good luck to him. I have no product to sell, and no personal time with all the other designs. I’ve had discussions with several people who have had problems with planetaries original Powersport guys included. If you have a good solution tell him. Bill
Bill, I know you have a vested interest
in getting the Powersport design out there, and I realize that it
seems to be a basically an ok (though quite pricey) product (with
no current production and apparently no support).
That does not justify advising avoidance of designs that have a
far more proven track record than the half-dozen or so Powersport
drives that have flown.

Mark, there are a few Powersport units available.
They will handle the power of a 20b. Not a planetary. Avoid
planetary units other than the fully custom unit done by
Mistral.
