 Hi Ryan,

I hope you dont have the same issue that I did.  When I first got my engine running, I was using a "brand new" engine from Atkins rotary that had been sittiing around for several years both before and after I purchased it.

When I first got it running, the coolant would quickly overheat, while the radiator was not even warm to the touch.  I fear you may have this issue because you said you plan to replace water pump and re-purge.  These were also my initial steps.

Unfortunately, it turns out that during the idle years, the cast iron side housings' coolant passages had rusted solid preventing the circulation of coolant.

I had to tear down the engine and replace the side housings.  I really hope this is not your issue, but if it is rest assured that it is not an impossible job.  It is just a couple months of tinkering and a modest investment that dont amount to much in the long term.

Best,
David Leonard

Bobby,

It appears to be only a water temperature problem. The oil stays in parameters.  We are swapping the water pump and re-bleeding the system today.

Thanks

Ryan,

We have a member of the group William Jepson that has some knowledge of the Powersport PSRU and PP engine. Bill post here from time to time. Are you coolant or oil cooling challenged?

Subject: [FlyRotary] Hello From Utah

All,

My name is Ryan Hendrickson and I have an RV-8 running a Powersport firewall forward setup out here in Utah.  I purchased the plane from the builder and a mentor of mine shortly before he went west.  So unfortunately, I don't have the benefit of his knowledge to help me tinker on it.  Finn has offered some guidance, but I thought it would be also helpful to find anyone else out there running the Powersport design.

The motor runs very well, but I am struggling to keep it cool.  If I succeed it solving the cooling issues, I would also love some advice on building an exhaust.  It is currently straight-piped off the header and it is unbearably loud.  That said, are there any Powersport aircraft out there that are successfully flying?

Thanks in Advance,

Ryan
