This is a brand new EC3 board and new virgin chips.

Checked the compile listing and:
   000000A8            01194 ENG                     EQU     0xA8 ;PUT 
ENGINE TYPE CODE HERE AND CHECK **** ALL **** FLAGS BELOW!!
so something else in the program is changing it from this constant value 
to B0.
