Greetings,

The first start of rev-2 was a non-event.  We had 3 fire extinguishers, and a doctor standing by (Navy flight surgeon who's interested in RV's).  Fortunately, none of the above was needed :-)  Today's log follows:

Cheers,
Rusty (running again)

Back filled the oil cooler, and fixed the oil leak at the redrive oil return.  Installed the prop extension, and prop.  Added some heat shielding at the lower motor mount tube that is close to the exhaust.  Nothing to do then but drag it out and crank it up.  Great news, the engine started right up, and ran as well as you could hope for with the default settings.  The EM-2 worked fine, though it’s unreadable in direct sunlight (and I mean direct, with no canopy or anything in the way).  I’ve gotta see if there’s a brightness setting.   The only leak was one drop of oil at the oil cooler fitting, and I snugged that up.  Aside from that, it was a perfect run.  I only ran it for a few minutes, and saw 110 F oil, 130 F water,  and 1310 F EGT.  The alternator works, and can be turned on and off as advertised.  I didn’t exceed 4000 RPM because it was just too windy without the canopy.  The lowest RPM I could get without tuning was 1800, and that’s the only time I could even hear the exhaust.  At any speed above that, all I could hear was prop noise.  I think the Spin Tech will prove to be a good thing.   I spent the rest of the afternoon tie wrapping the wires and hoses, and adding some sleeving to make sure nothing could chafe.  I also went ahead and riveted the coolers to their brackets.  The engine is complete, and ready for final tuning.  Tomorrow, work will start on final fitting of the cowl and cheek extensions, then the radiator ducts have to be made.  I also need an airbox of some sort, and will plumb that into the right radiator duct. Time to fly after that.
