We had 3 fire extinguishers, = and a doctor standing by (Navy flight surgeon who's interested in RV's). Fortunately, none of the above was needed :-) Today's log follows: =20 Cheers, Rusty (running again) =20 3-16-04 =20 Back filled the oil cooler, and fixed the oil leak at the redrive oil return. Installed the prop extension, and prop. Added some heat = shielding at the lower motor mount tube that is close to the exhaust. Nothing to = do then but drag it out and crank it up. Great news, the engine started = right up, and ran as well as you could hope for with the default settings. = The EM-2 worked fine, though it's unreadable in direct sunlight (and I mean direct, with no canopy or anything in the way). I've gotta see if = there's a brightness setting. The only leak was one drop of oil at the oil = cooler fitting, and I snugged that up. Aside from that, it was a perfect run. = I only ran it for a few minutes, and saw 110 F oil, 130 F water, and 1310 = F EGT. The alternator works, and can be turned on and off as advertised. = I didn't exceed 4000 RPM because it was just too windy without the canopy. The lowest RPM I could get without tuning was 1800, and that's the only = time I could even hear the exhaust. At any speed above that, all I could = hear was prop noise. I think the Spin Tech will prove to be a good thing. = I spent the rest of the afternoon tie wrapping the wires and hoses, and = adding some sleeving to make sure nothing could chafe. I also went ahead and riveted the coolers to their brackets. The engine is complete, and = ready for final tuning. Tomorrow, work will start on final fitting of the = cowl and cheek extensions, then the radiator ducts have to be made. I also = need an airbox of some sort, and will plumb that into the right radiator = duct.
