Dave, I am not certain that you may be aware of a point involving the water pump housing mating to the block. The water pump has two (I think) of the studs from the engine block that require a thin washer else the water housing will not be parallel to the block mating surface. These two studs are the ones that the water housing gasket does not cover. Therefore if you use a gasket then you must use these spacers on the two studs that do not have the gasket to ensure the pumps mating surface is level and is not cocked against the block. Don't know if that is your problem - but sort of sounded like it since you mentioned the leak was at that seal area. I think its the top two studs but can't recall from memory, but the spacers need to be on the two studs not covered by the gasket. These are often overlooked when installing a water pump. Ed Anderson
