To address Finn's concern, Rusty sent me the original Lycoming mount for the mount points, Adding the "fix" while seeming to take care of the failures, Van had already designed a better way with the RV-6,7,&9 mounts. Rusty's mount is just a smaller version of this design. It addresses all the issues with the original mount with the addition of another mount point, two diagonal braces, and two shorter tubes welded to the gear sockets to solve the tortional socket twist problems. The gear leg geometry is much more robust than stock mount. Fred

Have I mentioned that Fred's mounts are worth the money :-)

Unfortunately, I can vouch for the strength of the gear.  During the first few flights, I stress tested the landing gear with a number of full stall landings from about 2-3 ft.  It's amazing how much lower the RV-3 is than my old RV-8.  Of course I was whining about this "problem" to my unsympathetic RV-8 buddy, who reminded me that he flies an Airbus for work :-)

Cheers,
Rusty (finishing the EM-2 and engine wiring today)
