Re: Bleed valve, that's exactly right. Same as one on the
bottom of a car rad. Jim M and I have both used these with no problems.
If the neck of you expansion tank is higher than the elbow, just opening
the valve while filling will do the trick. (there's a little hole in
the thermostat that will allow air and fluid to pass through it slowly)

valve that is normally on the lower tank in a radiator in most cars, and
used for draining the coolant from the radiator, or flushing the
radiator?
