Good point, David.... I was trying to use an aluminum fitting because the casting is aluminum, and the female AN swivel hose fitting is aluminum, so I was trying to avoid using dissimilar metals to prevent corrosion, etc.  Paul Conner

 
From going through all this with the RV-8, it's my understanding that small fittings, say AN-6 and smaller should be steel if they attach to a hose with relative motion.  Larger fittings from AN-8 and up can remain aluminum, since they're pretty beefy.  Again, that's just sort of a rule of thumb that some folks use, so make your own decision about what you feel is safe.
