Hi Steve, FWIW, I've never checked my temps at idle (1500 is about idle) but I doubt those numbers mean much. Even at 5000 they don't mean much if the airplane isn't moving.
Back home now so will send that code. Be aware that the EM3 code was written in compiled Basic so you will need the Pic Basic Pro compiler to do anything with it.
Tracy Sent from my iPad Hi Tracy
I rechecked the delta’s again a 1500RPM and Ive got approx, 12F on the oil and 9F on the water. Are you home yet to send me that code for the EM3?
Cheers
Steve Izett
Yes, flow rates are very different (about 35 - 40 GMP for the water) and water has a higher specific Heat (ie, calories per gram per deg F delta) than oil. So the oil has to have a much higher delta to carry away the same amount of heat. The lower flow rate just increases that factor. The oil also does much more of the cooling job in a rotary than a piston engine. About 1/3 of of the cooling is via the oil.
Tracy Sent from my iPad Hi Tracy Thanks for the data. Any wisdom on why the difference? I thought water would transfer heat faster than oil! Are the flow rates vastly different? Thanks again

Glad to hear you're making progress Steve. A fixed regulator will make it harder to adjust for constant mixture across the whole range of throttle settings but should be possible. I'm only seeing 5-10 degrees delta on water but 40-50 degrees on oil at cruise power. I think that is typical.TracySent from my iPadOn Jan 15, 2015, at 04:12, steve Izett <flyrotary@lancaironline.net> wrote:
Hi Guys
I put the prop on the Glasair today and ran it with a load for the first time! Smother running and seams to be cooling thus far with 82F OAT. Again - big thanks Tracy for making this possible. What pressure do you guys have in your fuel rails, ours is a fixed regulator.
I’m in the garage at home so not taking the engine past 2400 RPM. Cant wait to get it down to our hangar and run it up properly!
Do you guys measure in and out of your coolers? I’m getting a delta of about 13F on the oil cooler and very little on the water. Any wisdom, or data?
Thanks
