I took the thermostat out. Now the water circulates fine and I
have good cooling. Even the cabin heater works :). Does the third gen have a
recirculation hole? My theromstat housing just has space for the thermostat. No
other holes.

I'm pretty darned sure
the 3rd gen has a similar bypass function, but I haven't taken my FD thermostat
out to see. Here's a picture of the 2nd gen bypass hole. Do you see
anything like this?
