Mark, in our case expansion and contraction issues have been eliminated,
the tubes float at the other end, they are not welded to anything. We are mostly
concerned with leakage at the gasket if it is two separate flanges, if not an
issue then we are ok.

We're looking for small weight savings as well as easier to build up
each pipe. The other ends of the pipes are floating with a double flange
going into a collector.
