Glad to hear damage was minimal, Dave. I presume the
farmer didn't offer to let you spend the night in his barn {:>).
One of the few things I disagree with
Bob Nuckolls (Aero Electric Guru) is the use of CB instead of fuses for system
critical subsystems. In my 2000+ hours of flying in military aircraft, I
have on more than one occasion been able to reset a critical CB when it
popped. Sometimes a temporary condition will occur that causes a excessive
current draw - perhaps rare, but once is enough in my book.
But, cutting to the important item, I believe you must be
getting close to my total of 23 minutes of RV glider time {:>). I am
prepared to hand the baton over to you at any time.
Stay safe.

Landing
Sigh..
Yup, that was me. I have been meaning to fess
up. We were at about 1500 agl when the fuses blew on my fuel pumps.
I was in a close formation of 40 aircraft at the time too. I think I got
some bad MOGAS somewhere in Iowa as I did notice my fuel return flow creep
downward but didn't think it was a big problem.
On the incident
flight, a one hour formation flight from SQI for a mass arrival at OSH, the
return fuel flow drifted down to zero. I actually though it was a sensor
problem. I didn't have the ability to give it a lot of attention because
we were in a loose formation. Soon after we pulled it together for a tight
formation power switched off. I tried to find a road, but quickly ran out
of options and put it down in a bean field. With the beans hitting the
flaps it brought me to a stop in about 200ft, just before I would have gone into
the full grown corn. As mentioned, wheel pants broke in half but no other
damage besides pulling bean leaves out of every nook and cranny. The
farmers were very nice, and the stories are true... they have attractive
daughters. They were out there barefoot in their Sunday best enjoying the
excitement. Helped me clean the fuel filter and replace the fuses.
Within a couple of hours I was able to take off from one of their driveways as
they all waived good bye (but strangely, no one took me up on my offer for a
ride).
Landed at OSH just before dark to a reserved parking space and a
very warm reception from the formation group and friends. Great support
from everyone all around, though I am trying to avoid the obvious new call signs
they are trying to give me.

Ed,
This is the info. I got from my neighbor
Ron Waker - he was in the 40 plane formation also. I assume RODOC is
Dave L. Glad it was only a couple of wheel pants damaged and the
problem was able to be fixed easily. I wonder what clogged the
filter.

Oh ya.. RODOC.
We were on our way from SQI to OSH
on Sunday .. after about 30 min of flying from SQI, I hear "Rodoc's Out"
over the radio. He was very calm about it. Flight lead asking him what
was wrong etc. "Don't know" what the answer. We assigned a wingman to
stay with him, and a 'spare' took his place in the formation. We had 4
spares with us.
He landed in a bean field. Destroyed his wheel pants,
but no other damage. The farmer towed him to his private driveway. They
fixed the problem and he launched to OSH. No further problems.
The
issue ended up being a clogged fuel filter. It was so gummed up that the
circuit breaker kept popping on the fuel pump. Once it was cleaned and
blown out, everything was fine.
He did end up flying in the 40 ship
on Monday.

I was told a Rv-6 Rotary from California
made a force landing out of the "40" Oskhosh RV formation at the
airshow. Sort of thought it could have been Dave Lenoard -
anybody heard who it was? I understand he was able to take off
from a nearby road - so apparently no serious damage if
