Subject: [FlyRotary] Prop leading edg= e tape

I had my forth flight yesterday. =3B I am still just circling the field= . =3B Everything was going well. Temps and pressures were all well in t= he green and I was "playing' (ok=2C a =3Bkinda cavalier term for testing) with prop pitch=2C trim and power settings when I suddenly felt a distinct= =2C slight to moderate vibration coming from the rear of the plane. =3B= I called the tower and with calm winds was cleared for any runway. =3B= I did a tight right turn to 22 and landed. =3B Has it been mentioned t= hat these canards really don't want to land...I floated quite a bit down th= e runway...gotta not try to b= leed off speed by slightly lifting the nose.....damned bad Cessna habits = =3B-)
 =3B
Anyway=2C I landed =3Band =3Btaxied back to the hangar=2C the vibration had stopped. =3B I g= ot out and did my quick inspection and it was =3Bimmediately obvious that one of the prop leading edge tapes had departed= the craft and another was starting to tear off. =3B Well=2C at least i= t seems I quickly discovered the problem...kinda what testing is all about.
 =3B
This is an =3BIVO in flig= ht adjustable prop on my Velocity. =3B I have been using the stainless = steel prop tape as provided by IVO. =3B I used the same tape during ground testing=2C but replaced i= t all just before first flight. =3B Interestingly=2C it was pretty diff= icult to get off...as in it required quite a bit of force. =3B I did ha= ve some issue with the tape =3Bun-attaching a bi= t during ground testing at the edges but had hoped it would be okay once I = replaced it and secured it better.
 =3B
IVO =3Bhas an online vide= o showing how to install. =3B It is quite straight forward=2C but I did= note they now add some superglue to the edges of the tape. =3B I do no= t recall that being a part of it when I got the prop=2C however=2C I did se= e the video before the latest tape replacement and I DID add the superglue = to the leading edge. =3B I also was very =3Bthorough when cleaning the prop before adding the tape....I think I used Ac= etone for this step.
 =3B
Anyway=2C I have not had success with =3Bthe method in the video. I was= thinking of masking off the prop except where the tape goes and applying s= ome of the 3M Super 77 (I think it is the 77...red can) to attach the tape.=  =3B I had good success with this when sticking sandpaper to long I-bea= ms for sanding my wings=2C needing heat to =3Bultimatley removing it...alas=2C sanding blocks and props are two different c= reatures.
 =3B
So? What say ye? =3B Ideas=2C comments etc. =3B I had one person me= ntion that they don't like the tape but understand its use to help protect = the prop. =3B Do we know if it is doing more than protecting from minor=  =3Bfod and=2C I guess ra= in??

Thanks in advance folks.
