 I do know that I did not shut off all electrics until I got out (yes I should have done that in the air) and I could clearly hear fuel pumps running.

 Jeff, Really glad you are OK.  Sorry about your plane.  Sad times for sure.  Probably a good decision on not turning off the electrics. My first engine out I turned off the electrics on short final to the road I was landing on... Doh!!  Just turned off both my airspeed indicators.  So not only did I have to do a dead stick onto a road, but I did it without airspeed info..  (no time to re-boot).

Lesson: if you have electric flight instruments, the emergency procedure is not to turn off the electrics, but just the fuel pumps.  Very low risk of an electrical fire given all the fuses in the system.

Well done.  Bummer of a failure mode.
