They are literally just two round tubes (5 1/4" and 5") and that is not what I would recommend. There should be a nicely curved bell mouth on them which folds back to blend with the cowl when I am finished. That said, there is no magic in the inlets anyway. Much more important are the ducts and diffusers behind them. Also important is the cooling air outlet. This is of course a subject for an entire book, not an email. Kuchmann & Webber's "The Aerodynamics of Propulsion" is a good place to start.
