How compact does it have to be?  I use K&D filters and there are a number of choices.  The off-the-shelf mounts that I am aware of fit the large filters used on Ford V-8s since the 60s (check application guide for part number).  There is a shorter filter (maybe 40% shorter) that fits the same base.  I believe it's for 30-year-old Chrysler products.  I would have to be really REALLY strapped for space to use one of those thimble size filters, but then again, Rotarys are not widely noted for making metal, so it might be OK.
