Brian,

Are you sure it was running? What muffler are you using? If its pretty quiet now, its only a matter of time before its as loud as the rest of us second gen guys. Mine will wake the dead.

Dennis, what muffler are you using? Hushpower? The Renesis is much quieter than the periphrial exhaust port already. You must have a really quiet airplane. Mine doesn't even have the exhaust splitters, and it's pretty quiet. One guy stopped on by and said he liked the looks, but the plane wasn't "Macho enough" He said it needed to be louder.

At least I THOUGHT he was talking about the plane.

Thanks Dennis. That’s very useful data. I'll try to do the same next time I get the chance.

Subject: [FlyRotary] More Renesis Flight Data

Friday I flew to Llano (70 miles) to pick up some barbecue for the wife and myself.  Take off was at 900' field elevation and I climbed at full throttle to 7,500'.  I used 7500' as the test altitude because Bill Eslick's RV-6 flight test data sent to the list on 3/10/10 had graphs for 7500'.

My aircraft is an RV-7A, Renesis 4 port, RD1-C redrive 2.85:1, Catto 76X88 composit prop, EC-2, EM-2, very quiet exhaust, DEI intake designed for 6200 rpm, full 42 gal. auto fuel, 200 # payload (pilot with some A/C tools, headsets etc).

Field elevation  900'
Climbed @  110 kts. indicated air speed  - Full throttle climb to 7500"
OAT 70 deg. at takeoff
Initial climb rate was 1800 - 1900 fpm
( I get ~ 2400 fpm with only 21 gallons in the tanks)

@ 4500" the climb rate was ~ 1400 fpm
Water 188 F, Oil 200 F

@ 6000' the climb rate was ~ 1250 fpm
Water 188 F, Oil 203 F , OAT 60 F

@ 7500' climb rate was ~ 1000 fpm
Water 189 F, Oil 204 F

I leveled off for about 5 minutes than went to full throttle again.

Full throttle for about 3 ot 4 minutes @ 7500'
MP 23.3 in.
Fuel flow - 12.1 gph
TAS 193 mph  - EM-2 data
Engine: 6660 - 6680 rpm
Water 184 F, Oil 205 F  OAT 65 F

When I fly at 7500' I normally use 8 to  8.3 gph
TAS 157 mph
Water 160 F, Oil 180 F

The barbecue from Cooper's in Llano was great!
