Ed, Thom, Mike
Thanks to all for your responses.
Ed – I’ve got some hours in a
Cherokee, and I like the “parking brake” flap control – for all
the reasons you mentioned. With the narrow cockpit of the RV I’m
sitting shoulder-to-shoulder w/ my pax (I’m 6-3 and 220 lbs) which
makes operating the “parking brake” that much more difficult.
Thom – I looked at Precise Flight’s
web site and found a mention of some flap controllers for certified aircraft
but was unable to find details for those.
Since I couldn’t find anything that
met my specs, I built a prototype. I’ll post some picts if anyone
is interested.

Control?
Check out "Precise Flight" They have a switch
that is used in Columbia's
and some Epic LT's. Just needs a couple micro switches on the flap motor.

Jeff, I presume you didn’t fly the
C-172 I flew – the flaps were manual {:>). But, I liked the
manual option so well, that is what I installed in my Rv-6A. I like the
immediate response, I know exactly what position the flap is in. I can
unload all the flaps in a fraction of a second or deploy them the same.
Oh, It also keeps my right arm
exercised {:>)

Subject: [FlyRotary] Flap Control?
Hello All,
I am probably a little off-topic here, but
you guys provide such great information that I thought I’d run this one
past you.
I’m looking for a flap controller
for an RV-7 that mimics the good-old C-172 flap controller.
I like the C-172 system because it:
- does not require the pilot to
hold the switch until the flaps are in the desired position
- give a visual indication of
both the selected position and the actual flap position
- allows the pilot to select any
flap position, no matter what the current flap position is
I don’t like the C-172 system
because it:
- is full of speedometer cables
and limit switches
Does anyone know of any after-market
devices that accomplish these goals? After Googleing for a while I found
a few, but none that meet these criteria. Perhaps I overlooked
something…
As always, any suggestions are much
appreciated,
-Jeff
