I have found that I like the RV fuel management which has no "both" option.
when one tank gets down to 1/8 or less I switch to the other and treat the
first as an emergency reserve.  you couldn't do this with your idea, in fact
I'm not sure how you would ever use all the fuel available.  switching back
and forth to get the last gallon would be ridiculous, or else you might lose
a rotor when fuel is still available in the other tank.  sounds too busy at
a time when concentration is needed elsewhere, like finding that emergency
field.
