With a remote filter you don't have to use stock any more.  I would recommend the bypass valve.  The purpose of the bypass valve is to allow oil to flow around the filter instead of through it when the filter is plugged up.  On some cars you don't need the bypass valve because there's one built into the engine.  The renesis has a bypass valve built in but it bypasses almost the entire lubrication system... its there to keep you from blowing your oil hoses, not to work around a clogged filter.  I recommend you get the filter with the built in bypass.

Wix is one of the better types of oil filter and Fram is pretty much the worst.  Fram was great once but that was back when Lycomings were the hottest new technology.  Since then they rely on their brand name only.

i'm sorry to have such mundane questions, but i have zero luck with that search function.
i am installing a remote filter.  the stock renesis filter appears to be too small in diameter to fit the remote bracket.  i found a bigger dia. that fits well. should i get a filter with the bypass valve?  does the brand matter?  this store carries fram and wix.     kevin
