My aircraft gained 100lbs excess weight and did back in 1998, so it's not a
new phenomena {:>). I attribute it to my (perhaps not too wise) philosophy
back then of "... if in doubt, build it stout!"... . I later decided the
corollary was "... an oz here and an oz there - and before you know it - you
have 100 lbs..."
44 lbs of my 100 lbs were two 25 AH concord RGC Batteries weight 22 lbs
each. I now fly with one 14 lbs Odyssey batter and have managed to pare a
few pounds here and there over the years.
Tracy Crook shows the right attitude - although sometimes carries it a bit
further than I would feel comfortable with - but build it light and it will
really perform. I decided it was cheaper if I just lost 20 lbs or so (still
working on that).
