You can check to see that it is in place with a bent paperclip. I've had problems getting the oil pump to prime after teardown. You could try disconnecting the oil pump discharge line and hooking a vacuu= m cleaner to it while cranking the engine. That could be enough to get the pump to prime. Or, slight pressure on the crankcase breather while crankin= g might also do the same thing. Mark S.
