Hi Monty,

Don’t recall exactly and my CADD package blew away with my last computer crash – so can’t open my CAD drawing.  Am sending you a copy of a photo and the drawing (you may be able to open it).

It looks like the oil pickup (curved blue tube going from plate down to rectangular sump) is about 8-10” long with a screen on the bottom.  One guy had his running approx 18” – but he was using a rubber  hose which eventually collapsed causing his engine to seize.

I use a gasket on the inside of the plate (between plate and oil pump inlet) and a vitro “O” ring and a metal bracket around the tube to press down on the ”O” ring on the outside of the plate (where the tube goes through) which seals the tube against the plate.  It’s worked fine for over 5 years – I do change the “O” ring any time I take the pan off.

My oil pressure comes up immediately on engine start.  However, needles to say (but, I will) very important that no air leaks are present – the pump sucks air much easer than it sucks oil {:>)

I recall a discussion a while ago about a remote oil tank. I am as usual trying to put 10lbs of poo in a 5lb sack. I don't want to use a dry sump for weight and complexity reasons. How far below the oil pump inlet flange do you  guys think I could locate the oil level before I start to have problems with foaming.

Ed, how long is the pickup tube for your tank and how far is the oil level below your pump inlet?

Thanks,

Monty
