The 316 of 316L is generally soft and used for chemical or gas transmission lines. 316 is a quality material but not necessarily the right material for this application. I only used the pool rail as I had the scraps laying around. It is good enough for a mock up but nto for a real exahaust. It allowed me to get my shapes and cuts defined for the real thing.  It is only 1&7/8 inch  OD as well so it does not match well with the 2&1/8 inch holes on the racing beat flange. FWIW the pool rail pieces came off a salt water pool so it may be rated for it as it has no eveidence of degradadtion from this use. It does seam quite soft and easy to cut and grind. I'll be ordering some 316 stuff soon.
