George, if you have any more questions about the arrangement I'm working on, the page Dale points out was a major inspiration for my efforts. I'm looking to use off-the-shelf parts to ease the process, but I'll probably revisit it at some point in the future with a custom DIY setup.

Yep, I had a good look at the Hoover site and found it interesting, but mounting the generator is the major obstacle for different engines. I do like the idea of having one fore and aft as redundancy.
I would ve VERY interested in a 'roll your own' style generator - when you get around to it. It is looking more doable!
