George, While the unit could be adapted using the traditional fuel flow sensor in the fuel line, there are such units already made for aircraft (expensive) and boats (less expensive) that would probably work for your needs..  The units as it is current configured only works with electronic fuel injected engines.  One of my goals was to keep it as inexpensive as possible and two Flow Scan transducers alone would cost about $200 more than my unit does.  Also for that reason, I have resisted request to add other sensors.

The reason I ask is that I want to keep my single development very simple and was wondering if it would work with a carb system - it would seem not, as I have no injector pulse. Unless it could be done some other way.

Here is what the EFISM looks like in its case.   This is the main flight screen with Air/Fuel Ratio indicator (top), Fuel Flow and Fuel used.  There are a number of other screens some of which shows the RWS EC2 fuel maps and ignition timing.  Check out www.andersonee.com if interested in more information.
 
But, to answer your question, the EFISM gets all its fuel flow and usage information from reading the injector's pulse train (no sensor required).  The Air/Fuel Ratio indicator uses the O2 sensor (narrow band) and if you want to see the Ec2 fuel maps and manipulate them using the EFISM then it requires 2 wires to the data output of the EC2.
 
So the O2 sensor is really the only sensor needed.  Tracy Crook offers the EM2 which is an aircraft performance and engine performance unit offering much more capability than my unit.  My unit would primarily be of interest to folks who say - already had an engine monitoring unit (Such as a Grand Rapids of others) but wanted to also add this Fuel monitoring/management system and did not need/want to duplicate the functions provided by the EM2.
 
 
It occupies the standard 2 1/4" dia instrument hold - is 1 1/2" deep and weighs 2 1/4 ozs.
